USkares.org is a 100% non-profit project of the Reminderband® network. Reminderband® headquarters are located in the pristine Cache Valley of Northern Utah and its warehouses ship to thousands of satisfied customers throughout the world. When we saw the devastation and tragedy that had befallen those in the paths of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita we asked ourselves, "What can we do to help?" So many people needed support and aid quickly. For this reason we started the uskares.org project. Reminderband® wants to help unite the country in caring for those in need. The slogan "Banding together to show America cares!" is what this project is all about. Reminderband® is donating 1,000,000 wristbands to support this cause and is donating 100% of all additional proceeds raised through this project to Hurricane Relief efforts to help those victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. USKares has already donated large sums to Acadiana Outreach Center, the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army. All future proceeds will go to Acadiana Outreach Center to help the ongoing grassroots efforts of rehabilitation. The KARE band symbolizes how much we care about others and our willingness to lend a hand and band together with others to help those in need.

"Transitional Recovery Action Center for Katrina/Rita" (T.R.A.C.K.) - It's about walking hand-in-hand with evacuees.
In response to the overwhelming needs from the hurricane devastation in our state, Acadiana Outreach Center in Lafayette, LA has expanded the capacity of current services and established the "Transitional Recovery Action Center for Katrina/Rita" (TRACK). Based on research and best practices models of service delivery, TRACK provides comprehensive assistance that moves beyond the band-aid approach to provide full assessment of needs and an action plan to meet those needs in a way that avoids duplication of efforts and resources.

In response to the hurricanes we employed 28 evacuees as a part of the Transitional Recovery Action Center for Katrina/Rita (T.R.A.C.K) where evacuees work directly with other evacuees in need. Tommy Veazey lived on Pecan Island and was a victim of Hurricane Rita. After the storm he returned to his home only to find his three front steps leading up to an empty lot. He then took an airboat a mile and a half away to find his house submerged in the marsh. Distraught, Tommy moved to Lafayette, started working in the T.R.A.C.K program, and now has a permanent job here as a case manager. "The T.R.A.C.K program gave me hope for the future and a chance to start from scratch." Another amazing story of survival is that of Cynthia Herring, Acadiana Outreach receptionist. Cynthia was in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina made landfall. Cynthia and her family were stranded at the Tulane Medical Center for four days before being airlifted to safety. They were then shuttled and bused around Louisiana until they found shelter in Lafayette. After weeks with no home or income, Cynthia finally found relief here as the T.R.A.C.K Life Enrichment Coordinator and now as the permanent receptionist.
With our combined efforts we hope to offer 701,010 services touching 13,000 lives in 2006, working one-on-one to help fulfill our mission of "Giving people back their God-given dignity".
